Investor in People

The Directors have always shown a real commitment to the training and development of their staff so it was a natural step for them, in 2004, to investigate Bolton Priestley becoming an Investors in People accredited company.

Investors in People provides a framework which enables organisations to continually improve the way in which they manage and develop their people, leading to business improvement and better client services. The IIP Standard is the foundation of good management practice.

In 2004 the company successfully gained accreditation and the IIP Recognition Panel particularly congratulated Bolton Priestley on their successful open style of management and proactive learning culture, and the Assessor praised the company’s philosophy of continuous development and highly motivated and technically competent staff.

Our continuing commitment to staff development was identified again three years later: a key strength of the company is ‘an opportunity to gain a thorough and professional training and gain broad experience within structural engineering’ (IIP Assessment Report 2007).

At our 2010 review, the Assessor was very impressed with the way the company is run and commented in particular on the high standard of training and development within the company, professionalism in all areas and positive working atmosphere. ‘Staff are even more focussed on delivering a professional service to clients than at any time in the recent past – staff spoke of having a real sense of purpose and direction, and as a result, a genuine desire to further improve on current practices (IIP Assessment Report 2010).

IIP has recently introduced a new scheme to award additional recognition to companies who want to work to higher levels of recognition. The Business Improvement Suggestion in the IIP Assessment Report 2010 stated ’the organisation has the potential to achieve a ‘silver’ or ‘gold’ recognition’ so our current aim is to achieve Gold recognition.
