BP embraces 3-D
July 28, 2011
Having monitored the market over the last few years, we have taken the plunge and bought into Autodesk’s Revit 3-D drawing software. This will enable us to develop and exchange 3-D models with other members of design teams and we are actively using this on several projects currently in the design phase. This is the next step on our route to fully embracing BIM. As part of our adoption of Revit, we have also purchased a new 3-D analysis and design package – ROBOT – which is fully compatible with the drafting software.
Our industry is rapidly changing and we wonder how long it will be before Revit (or another 3-D package) becomes the successor to 2-D AutoCAD on everyone’s work station. Some of us clearly remember the discussions and debates when AutoCAD was first introduced and we could not see it replacing hand drawings – now, how many drawing boards are left in offices?
