Structural Form

The original construction is massive loadbearing masonry walls with some steel columns; floors are generally concrete construction with steel filler joists. The facade is formed using classical terracotta details. Major refurbishment of the Hotel took place c1990 including extensions into the central courtyards using steel frames with composite concrete /metal deck construction.

Comments

Bolton Priestley has a long connection with the hotel and has been involved with several projects of varying sizes including the investigation of external masonry and balconies and repairs details and the co-joining of adjacent ballrooms to create one larger ballroom. In addition we prepared the structural designs for the new Conference Rooms at mezzanine floor level.
